What is surplus pipe?

Surplus pipe is material that may be rusty, excess that has been purchased from building projects that were canceled or had leftover materials, businesses that closed their doors and sold off their inventory, or companies that ordered too much inventory and had to get rid of it before it became damaged or lost its value. At Texas Iron & Metal, we are always looking for good opportunities to buy surplus pipe and other steel products at reduced prices, so we can pass the savings along to our customers and offer them more value for their money. We also offer great prices on prime steel if you cannot find what you need in the surplus section.

How does it compare in quality?

The overall quality is similar to new, prime-condition steel pipes in most cases, though there may be some minor cosmetic defects or surface corrosion from being stored for a period of time before the inventory was sold. We try to find fair deals on surplus pipe that is in reasonably good shape, and we price it according to its current condition. Surplus pipe is often just as good as new pipe for many uses, at a significantly reduced price. Even if they have defects like corrosion or scratches, they are still useful for many projects, such as fencing, building gates, signposts or applications where they will remain hidden.

What types of surplus pipe do you have available?

Texas Iron & Metal’s inventory is constantly changing, but we usually have several types of surplus pipe in stock. Typically, we have welded or seamless black and galvanized pipe in diameters ranging from 1/8 inch to 72 inches, with a variety of available wall thicknesses and lengths. Because surplus moves fast, it is important to purchase all the pipe you will need when it is available, because we cannot be sure that we will have similar products available in the future. We carry pipe with both threaded and smooth ends, and we offer pipe cutting and threading services, if required.

How can surplus pipe be used?

Published by Texas Metal & Iron If it is in good condition, surplus pipe can be used for transporting liquids or gases, if that was what they were originally designed for. They can also be used as fence posts, sign posts, light posts and poles for mounting wind generators or antennas. Surplus pipe can be welded together to create trusses for buildings, gates, fences or furniture, and single posts can be used to support ceilings or main support beams in a structure. There are hundreds of uses for surplus pipe, and it is a durable and long-lasting alternative to other materials like wood or PVC.
