How long have you been in business?

Texas Iron & Metal is a family-owned business that has been in operation for more than 75 years. It was started by our founder, Max Moore in 1939, and is currently owned and operated by his grandson, Max Reichenthal. We pride ourselves on our commitment to superior customer service, and strive to have the products you need available when you need them.

We offer in-store pickup or delivery, with same-day or next-day options available. Small orders are charged according to the size of the order, and larger orders, above $400, are free in the Houston area. There is no minimum to place an order, and it can be ready in 1-2 hours in most cases, or as little as 30 minutes if no custom cutting or pipe threading is involved.

"I have gone to Texas Iron & Metal twice so far to get some metal for my shop. The customer service was great. Even the guys in the yard were very helpful and respectful. The last time I went there, Esteban and the guys outside stayed a late to make sure my truck was loaded up with my material. Also, their prices are by far cheapest I have come around.

Published by Texas Metal & Iron Not all steel dealers will offer the same variety of products. Some may only offer structural steel products, such as steel channel, I-beams, tees, sheet metal and expanded metal, while others may only offer steel stock, such as angle iron, flat iron, bars, strips and other products you might find in a fabrication or welding shop. Some offer other types of metal, such as aluminum or zinc, and they may offer accessories like welding supplies, pipe fittings, flanges and tools. Certain suppliers may only offer prime steel, while others offer only surplus steel. The best steel dealers offer a wide selection, with many grades of steel, including prime, less-than-prime and surplus.

Published by Texas Metal & Iron Steel is a key aspect of the construction industry. Steel tubing is used to fortify a variety of structures including homes, bridges, commercial buildings, and even towers. For durability and longevity purposes, it’s important to get the best quality of steel. When you’re looking for the right steel to get your job done, consider these aspects of sourcing steel tubing in Houston:
    • Variety of products: Before you choose a steel supplier, you want to ensure they can source a variety of products. At Texas Iron & Metal, we boast a massive inventory of steel products that includes pipes, wide flange beams, sheets, I-Beams, welding wire, square and rectangular tubing, welding rods, and so much more. Need help narrowing down your needs? No problem. Ask for our downloadable inventory book (or for our print version).
    • Competitive prices: When you have a big project, you need a steel supplier who can get what you need within your client’s budget. • Outstanding service: We know how important time-management is with big projects. That’s why we offer free delivery for any order in Houston with a minimum $400 purchase order. That includes same-day delivery and weekend deliveries according to the unique needs and preferences of the customer.

If you want the highest quality steel for your project, then you’ll need to first search out the top steel dealers who can supply you with it. Here are a few tips to help you land steel dealers and identify a steel channel supplier who will ensure you get the quality products you need, when you need them:

Steel is one of the market’s strongest and most efficient materials, but there are a variety of alloys and treatments that can make it tricky to choose the right product for you. Having a connection with a great steel dealer enables you to use their knowledge to obtain the best product for your needs. Here are some tips for searching out the best steel dealers:

    • History: While a new-to-the-scene supplier isn’t a definite no-go, there is great value in working with a supplier that has a long and proven history in the industry. Time-tested companies have shown that they have provided solid customer service and a resilience capable of withstanding the ups and downs of the market.
    • Knowledgeable staff: Check the ‘About Us’ page of a supplier’s website or seek out the staff in person. All staff members of a top steel company should understand their available products and be able to answer any questions.
    • Breadth of supplies: Oftentimes, a project will require something unexpected and different part way through. Choosing a supplier with a variety of products will ensure that you get exactly what you need when the unexpected occurs without having to research and vet still another steel supplier.
    • Versatility: Maybe you’ll have a sudden increase in demand or a order change that requires new product. For such reasons, you’ll want a supplier that’s able to adapt quickly to meet your needs.

If you’re in the construction or manufacturing business, then you know that being aligned with a top steel dealer is a top priority. That’s because you need reliable access to high quality steel at a price that won’t break the bank.

    • Open stockyards:  Ask potential dealers whether you can browse the physical stockyard in addition to their online inventory. A stop down at the stockyard enables you to better acquaint yourself with team members and weigh the value of their product selection as it pertains to your current and anticipated projects.
    • Open communication:  Select a steel dealer you feel comfortable with as you’ll often find yourself wanting to know what their professional recommendation is when it comes to which alloy or treatment works best with your project. Additionally, you’ll want to choose a company dedicated to providing consistent progress reports and previous work examples so you can compare what they’ve done with what you need. This will help you see expected and actual budgets to give you a better financial understanding.
    • Open calculations: On that note, professional steel dealers will be able to provide everything in writing. This includes calculating the exact quantities and measurements in one easy and succinct estimate.

When you’re in the market for steel, you need to be vigilant about which steel dealers you choose to work with. Too many dealers charge more than their work is worth and implement onerous methods that can increase costs. Here are some things you should know about how to search out top steel dealers to ensure you get the best quality metal for your project:

    • Written estimates: Top, reputable steel dealers will provide you with written estimates for your desired project. In some cases, if you need to move quickly, this can be provided over the phone. But before you sign any agreements or hire a dealer, be sure to reach a mutual agreement that satisfies all your questions and concerns.
    • Open communication:  Select a steel dealer who is dedicated on providing open communication with progress reports for longer projects. Your ideal contractor should also be able to provide examples of past work for you to review.
    • Don’t opt for cheapness:  The lowest bids often equate a poor work output, but not always. Investigate the costs needed for your project and ensure they calculate in the labor work required for custom fabrication.
    • Local isn’t always best:  While supporting local businesses is commendable, when you need quality steel, at a good price, and fast, the best options may be out of your hometown. A great steel dealer will work with you to ship the products you need in the time frame you need them. Plus, steel dealers that work with industries throughout a region tend to have a greater variety of steel products, thereby ensuring that you get exactly what you need for your project.
