UM Plate
UM is an abbreviation of Universal Mill. UM plate is produced through a process in which the plate is rolled to width by vertical rolls and then rolled to a thickness of at least a quarter of an inch by horizontal rolls.
The strength of UM steel plates makes them well-suited for a variety of structural and building projects. For example, the UM process allows for plates to be produced in substantial lengths that can be used in constructing girders. UM steel plates can also be shaped into different tools and objects. Steel suppliers like Texas Iron and Metal understand the importance of choosing the right material for your projects.
The specific project requirements will be the primary factor in determining the thickness and weight per foot. Environmental conditions, such as temperature and exposure to other weather elements also should be considered when deciding on grade. If the possibility of corrosion is a concern, look for a plate with a more resistant make-up such as galvanized, stainless steel or aluminum, rather than others that are more susceptible to the elements.
If you have any questions or issues, our team members are always happy to assist you. We pride ourselves on being your ally for prime and less than prime UM plates of all available sizes, thicknesses, grades and weights.
