It depends on the product and the particular supplier. When possible, steel suppliers will try to obtain steel products as close to Houston as possible to minimize transportation costs, which eventually are passed along to the consumer. Often, however, they must rely on a network of suppliers to acquire all of the products in their inventory, and they may come from other areas in the state, out of state, or even from other countries. When possible, try to buy steel that is locally made, or at least made in the state, to ensure the highest quality and the lowest prices.
