Supplying the News - Bringing you the Latest News from Texas Iron & Metal May 2011
Forged of Steel.

The recent disasters in Japan and turmoil in Libya and elsewhere in the Middle East remind us of just how connected we are to the rest of the world and to each other here in the U.S. – with bonds forged of an (emotional) element just as strong as steel.

- In Japan: The devastating earthquake, tsunami and nuclear accident have resulted in an expected drop in steel production from the world's biggest steel exporter. Industry analysts expect Japan production could fall as much as 20 percent within the next few months. However, plants here in the U.S., Europe, Asia and elsewhere, which were formerly under-utilized as a result of the recession, are now upping their production. Thanks to our combined efforts, supply is expected to remain steady.
- In the Middle East and North Africa: The political unrest that has shaken the region recently will affect demand for steel in the short-term. In the long term, though, global demand will hit a record 1.441 billion metric tons in 2012, thanks primarily to demand in emerging and developing countries. Demand for steel continues to grow as these countries rely heavily on the strength of steel, resulting in rising prices for steel.
- In India: The increased demand from infrastructure and automobile sectors for steel has led India to expand its steel production capacity by 12 million metric tons. A rising player in steel production, India also has growing demand for steel as a result of a strong domestic economy and the expansion of its industrial sector.

Texas Iron & Metal recognizes the importance of staying on top of current events. Not only does it enable us to stay at the forefront of the industry, but it allows us to see the bigger picture. Steel-ing the Spotlight >> Steel Roller Coasters.

Since the transition from wooden to steel roller coasters, thrill-seekers everywhere have been demanding newer, faster and more dare-devilish rides. Six Flags over Georgia intends to give amusement park enthusiasts just that. The park's newest roller coaster, Dare Devil Dive, is set to open Memorial Day weekend. Thanks to steel, this mega coaster reaches a blistering 52 mph and features a 95-foot vertical lift, diving loops and spine-tingling rolls and the dreaded Immelman vertical U-turn. Steel & Pipe in the News >> In Memory of an Angel.

A steel I-beam from the World Trade Center will be molded into an angel in memory of Christina Taylor Green, who was born on Sept. 11, 2001, and died in the Tucson, Ariz., shooting rampage that injured Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in January.
